Argenica Therapeutics
To enhance outcomes for stroke patients, Argenica is creating and attempting to commercialise a "best in class" neuroprotective cationic arginine-rich peptide treatment. Stroke is the greatest cause of mortality and disability worldwide, and its treatment and aftercare have high financial expenses. With existing therapies, 20% of patients pass away and 50% develop permanent disabilities. Additionally, the prevalence of stroke is rising due to the ongoing epidemics of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity as well as an ageing population. The only available treatments at this time are mechanical thrombectomy and tPA (alteplase) thrombolysis for clearing blood clots. Despite extensive study, there are no commercially available medications that can shield the brain from harm after a stroke.
