Saphlux: Funding, Investors & Team (Sep 2026)
Saphlux, Inc. develops, manufactures, and supplies semi-polar gallium-nitride (GaN) materials for nitride-based solid-state lighting and power devices. Major applications include high power blue LEDs, green LEDs, Micro-LEDs, laser diodes, VCSELs, IGBTs, etc. Benefits of semi-polar materials have long been proven in addressing the fundamental bottlenecks in first generation c-plane GaN materials such as efficiency droop, green gap and wavelength shift in LEDs and lasers. However, the mass-production of large-area, high-quality and low-cost semi-polar GaN materials has been rather challenging. Based on the research from the Nitride Group at Yale University, Saphlux was founded in 2014 by Prof. Jung Han and Dr. Chen Chen to resolve these problems. The company successfully developed the world's first stacking-fault-free semi-polar GaN-on-sapphire materials. Raised over $11 million from Venture Capitals, Saphlux has now built a dedicated production line to mass-produce 4-inch (20-21) GaN-on-sapphire templates for industry clients.
Saphlux has raised $64.3M across 3 funding rounds on record, the most recent a Series C of $43.6M announced in Apr 2026.
That round is above the $7.5M median round size for Consumer Electronics companies tracked on FundedIQ over the last two years.

About FundedIQ's Saphlux Funding Data
FundedIQ tracks announced funding rounds and refreshes this profile every week. Round dates, stages and amounts are normalised to a single format, converted to US dollars, and de-duplicated: two records of the same round announced days apart are merged, and two genuinely different rounds are kept apart on the amounts they disclose. Amounts shown are the disclosed figures only — a round announced without a number is listed and excluded from the total rather than estimated.
Employee counts are reported bands, not exact headcounts. Founder and executive names carry the job title on record. Anything we do not hold for Saphlux is left off this page rather than filled in.
